Cirencester come back twice to tie match against 'play-off' chasing Leighton Town

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

Cirencester Town  2 - 2  Leighton Town

‘Play-off’ chasing Leighton Town were the latest visitors to The Talent Hire Stadium and it was ‘The Reds’ that took the lead twice, but their hosts scored two cracking goals to level before the interval, and despite much promise in an end-to-end second half neither side managed to break through and the points were shared.

Cirencester made their usual positive start but a few minutes after the visitor’s ‘keeper pushed an effort over his crossbar Leighton opened their account when LOUIE BARRETT smashed the ball into the net after robbing a home defender.

Five minutes later Cirencester equalised when REEGAN MESSENGER received the ball on the edge of the visitor’s box and promptly drove it home to level.

It didn’t take ‘The Reds’ long to regain the lead as Finlay Brennan’s charging run and purposeful cross was met by the head of ALBIE HALL at the back post.

With the interval looming Cirencester equalised with a sensational goal as HARRY BURNS produced a brave diving header at the back post to meet Luca Robinson’s cross.

The second half promised much as the pace of the game continued unabated - with both sides threatening but neither able to make the breakthrough.
