Kidlington complete the double over Cirencester

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

Cirencester Town  0 - 1  Kidlington

A change in formation resulted in a disjointed and frustrating performance from The Centurions as they struggled to get into their stride against determined, hard-working opponents.

The home side opened promisingly enough but found the long ball game and willing running of their opponents forcing them back as soon as they lost it and as a result play was extremely ‘scrappy’ for much of the first half and whilst the visitors looked the more dangerous on the counter attack neither side had done enough to open the scoring by the interval.

Cirencester pressed from the re-start but conceded a free kick that was headed out of the home box to be collected by BEN RICHARDS who struck a superb low shot into the bottom right corner.

As the hour approached home custodian Stuart Nelson parried a firm strike from Felipe Barcelos and shortly before the mid-point of the half Ben Whitehead came close to levelling as the ball rolled along the goal line before being cleared.

During the fourth quarter Cirencester pressed and their opponents defended resolutely before launching quick counter attacks.

Just before the game entered ‘added-time’ Cirencester came close to scoring when George Peare struck the Kidlington bar with a firm header but it wasn’t to be and Kidlington took the points and completed the double over their ‘neighbours’.
