Cirencester move up to 4th place in the table

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

Cirencester Town  4 - 1  Waltham Abbey

A terrific, all-round team performance results in victory for The Centurions in a competitive top five clash.

As expected, the 5th v 4th match started at a brisk pace as The Abbots withstood the early pressure from their hosts and somewhat against the run of play opened the scoring with a quick counter attack that enabled NATHAN TWIN-KORANTENG to lob the stranded home keeper after 16 minutes.

Undeterred Cirencester pressed on and levelled seven minutes later when NICK PEARE headed a corner kick against the bar and into the net via the keepers back.

The second quarter became more competitive as the interval loomed and following a scramble in the visitor’s goalmouth, when a couple of efforts were blocked on the line, BEN WHITEHEAD finally forced the ball into the net to give the hosts the lead shortly before the interval.

Cirencester continued to press forward after the break and as the hour mark approached BEN WHITEHEAD added his second with a firm strike inside the far-right post - whilst the visitors were still dangerous on the counter attack.

The pressure on the visitor’s box continued to increase and after surviving a couple of scrambles they finally conceded a Penalty Kick that FELIX MILES emphatically drove into the net.

Minutes before the final whistle Reegan Messenger latched onto a clearance and struck a thunderbolt that crashed against the visitor’s bar.
