The Centurions victorious at The Corinium Stadium
Pitching In Southern League
Division 1 Central
Cirencester Town 3 - 0 Hadley FC
The Centurions returned to The Corinium Stadium, following two long distance treks across the country, and after opening the scoring late in the first half they added two more around the hour to secure a solid victory against visitors HADLEY FC.
The game started at quite a pace with glimpses of passing football but no serious test for either ‘keeper during the first quarter. Around the 30-minute mark the visitors did get the ball into the net but were adjudged to have fouled the home ‘keeper in the process for a free kick to be awarded instead.
Two minutes later the visiting ‘keeper blocked a Reegan Messenger effort and the follow-up scramble but he couldn’t prevent Cirencester opening their account shortly afterwards as JAKE LEE powerfully headed a by-line cross into the net at the back-post.
Leading up to the hour mark home ‘keeper Stuart Nelson pulled off a double save to deny Hadley and almost immediately Cirencester increased their lead when NICK PEARE headed home a free kick, and three minutes later REEGAN MESSENGER added a third from a corner kick.
A few minutes into the final quarter Hadley’s Luke Alfano struck a fierce shot against the right post and after a number of long balls they were eventually rewarded with a free kick on the edge of the home Penalty Area that required a diving save from Nelson to deny them.
