The Centurions secure late victory

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

AFC Dunstable  2 - 3  Cirencester Town

The Centurions made the 2-hour journey across the country to meet AFC Dunstable and after an entertaining match of fast paced football secured the 3 points with virtually the last kick of the game.

The home side came out of the blocks very quickly to produce fast ‘pass-and-move’ football from the off and they opened the scoring after 12 minutes when CAMERON COOK tucked the ball into the net from close range following an attack down their right flank.

Cirencester began to press with more conviction, as the half progressed, and they asked some questions of their hosts.

The second half also began at a brisk pace as play switched from ‘end-to-end’ and as it entered the final quarter Cirencester levelled when HARRY BURNS drove a low shot inside the left post from the edge of the home Penalty Area.

The visitors took the lead in the 85th minutes when a back-post header from HARRY BURNS struck the home ‘keeper on its way into the net.

Three minutes later it was all-square again as JOHN SHAMALO swept the ball home from close range.

With virtually the last kick of the game, five minutes into ‘added-time’, Felix Miles delivered a free kick to the far-post where, after an initial block, JAKE LEE smashed it into the net to secure victory.
