The Centurions knocked out of the County Cup by local rivals

GFA Senior Challenge Cup

Quarter Final

Bishops Cleeve  2 - 1  Cirencester Town

Cirencester took a youthful looking side to local rivals Bishops Cleeve for this County Cup Quarter Final fixture and after a goal-less first half finally succumbed late in the second period.

The home side started very positively to press their visitors from the off whilst Cirencester relied on quick counter attacks as they worked their way into the game.

Around the mid-point there was a chance at each end as Toby Holland fired narrowly wide of the far-right post and home custodian Lewis Clayton pushed a Charlie McCrae effort over his cross-bar.

Minutes later a downward header from Ross Langworthy also had to be pushed over the cross-bar by ‘keeper Ronnie Newberry in a frantic first half.

The home side opened the scoring five minutes into the second half when ROSS LANGWORTHY smashed the ball into the roof of the net following a scramble on the edge of the 6-yard box.

Cirencester equalised on the hour as FELIX MILES made a weaving run down the centre before driving the ball inside the right post.

Both sides were by now pressing forward at every opportunity but Cleeve made the breakthrough in the final ten minutes when a cross-field pass was intercepted and quickly fed to Holland who quickly moved it on for ROSS LANGWORTHY to fire it inside the far-left post.
