The Centurions secure the points in hard-fought contest
Pitching In Southern League
Division 1 Central
Cirencester Town 3 - 1 Hertford Town
For the second successive week The Corinium Stadium was the venue for a re-arranged league fixture and after a hard-fought match The Centurions secured a 3-1 victory against a very capable HERTFORD TOWN.
Within minutes of the kick-off it was clear the visitors had come to play as they insisted on playing their way out of defence but nine minutes into the game Cirencester opened the scoring with a looping near-post header from REEGAN MESSENGER.
Playing towards The Arena end of the ground Cirencester pushed forward and after repelling their attacks the visitors countered with quick-passing to find the home defence in determined mood.
Despite the attacking intentions of both sides no further goals were added before the interval.
Just after the mid-point of the second half Hertford levelled the score as a quick counter down their right flank resulted in KOLADE SALAUDEEN tucking the ball in at the near post.
Five minutes later Cirencester regained the lead as REEGAN MESSENGER was well-placed to finish from close range as the ball was headed back into the danger zone following a corner kick.
Following this setback the visitors pressed forward and the home defence was severely tested and in ‘added-time’ LUCA ROBINSON made sure of victory when his shot wrong footed the ‘keeper to enter the net inside the right post.
