FROME TOWN knock The Centurions out of the FA Trophy

The Isuzu FA Trophy

First Round Qualifying

Frome Town  3 - 1  Cirencester Town

The Centurions entered the competition at the First Round Qualifying stage and after conceding a very early goal were knocked-out at FROME TOWN by a 3-1 score-line.

Cirencester conceded a goal after three minutes when BEN GRIFFITHS was released down the centre of the pitch to race in unopposed and confidently tuck the ball past visiting custodian Stuart Nelson.

Despite the early setback Cirencester rallied to press their opponents but often over-hit the final ball whilst their opponents countered quickly and looked the more threatening with a number of near misses.

Six minutes into the second half The Robins increased their lead as MATT WOOD bundled the ball over the line at the back post.

Cirencester responded as Jonny Dennis struck the home crossbar and ‘keeper before an alert CHARLIE McCRAE responded quickest to poke the ball home.

The visitors continued to press forward, but found it difficult to break through their opponents experienced back line, with Ellis Dunton and Luca Robinson coming closest with a header and shot respectively.

As the game was drawing to a close Nelson produced a full-length dive to deny Jon Davies but at the 90-minute mark Frome confirmed their victory as JAMES OLLIS burst into the Penalty Area to score.
