Cirencester in hard-fought stalemate
Pitching In Southern League
Division 1 Central
Leighton Town 0 - 0 Cirencester Town
Once again Cirencester made a long trip across the country, this time to face Leighton Town in a mid-week league fixture, and after a hard-fought match the points were shared.
The visitors kicked-off in perfect conditions and immediately attacked their host who responded in like manner and it soon became apparent that both sides were up for the challenge as there was little time to dwell on the ball and as a result it all became a little frantic with the ball often in the air rather than on the ground – such was the commitment on display.
Whilst the score-line might suggest a dull match it was far from that as there was plenty of goalmouth action and two keepers who made several spectacular saves behind solid defences.
Shortly before the mid-point of the second half Cirencester had the clearest opportunity to score when a 1v1 with the ‘keeper was blasted over the bar and in the final minutes Leighton pressed really hard but couldn’t break through a resolute defence.
