Cirencester score late equaliser in opening league fixture

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

Kings Langley  1 - 1  Cirencester Town

The Centurions travelled to Hertfordshire for their opening fixture of the 2023-24 Season to face KINGS LANGLEY and after conceding an early goal through a Penalty Kick recovered to secure a point with an 89th-minute equaliser.

Based on ‘Tweets’ from both Clubs this was an end-to-end encounter with Cirencester conceding an early Penalty Kick that JERMAINE HOWE converted.

Cirencester responded to the setback and threatened whilst Langley countered for a curling effort to be caught by keeper Stuart Nelson.

At the mid-point of the half a defensive mix-up in the Langley defence provides an opening but it is poked wide of the far post.

On the stroke of half-time Aidan Bennett’s drive was pushed over for a corner kick but it remained 1-0 at the interval.

Cirencester started the second period positively with a cross that fizzed through the home box without contact in the opening minutes and Langley replied as Nelson was called into action a couple of times.

During the final minutes Cirencester pressed and Langley battled to clear their lines but in the final minute the visitors finally broke through when NICK PEARE turned sharply to lash the ball into the net from a few yards.
