'The Centurions' lose in 'added-time' again

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

Didcot Town  1 - 0  Cirencester Town

Cirencester made the comparatively short journey into Oxfordshire to meet long-time adversaries Didcot Town on their home patch and after a hard-fought battle succumbed to another ‘added-time’ goal to return empty handed.

Despite the incessant rain during the last few days the match was still on and it was the home side that had the first pot at goal as Joshua Hedges close range shot, on the turn, cleared the Cirencester crossbar after three minutes.

During the first half Cirencester worked the ball down their flanks without testing the home ‘keeper whilst Didcot relied on quick counter attacks and shots from distance.

The second half was much the same although after a change in formation Cirencester became more direct and home ‘keeper Leigh Bedwell had to push a cross away from his right post to maintain parity just after the hour mark.

The pace of the game was certainly increasing, not to say frantic, as both sides sought victory but the defences held firm until in ‘added-time’ a Didcot throw-in on their right flank was worked inside to the edge of the Cirencester box. The ball was then played to the by-line for Hedges to cross towards the near post where JENSON WRIGHT managed to get his head to it, as he fell backwards, with the ball looping into the top right corner to claim the vital 3 points.
