The Centurions return empty-handed after long cross-country trek

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

AFC Dunstable  2 - 0  Cirencester Town

Cirencester made another long journey across the country, this time for a mid-week league fixture, against AFC Dunstable and despite a battling performance returned empty handed as they conceded a Penalty Kick on the stroke of half-time and a second goal ten minutes after the interval.

The visitors kicked off proceedings in pouring rain on a very cold evening and whilst the home side mounted a couple of early attacks it was the visitors that pressed and created the better chances in the opening quarter.

Late in the half the home side pressed and in the 44th minute they were awarded a Penalty Kick for handball that LOUIE COLLIER confidently converted.

Cirencester started the second period very positively but 10 minutes into the half were hit on the counter as Collier collected a clearance and charged into the visitor's box - his shot was parried into the path of a supporting MAX BUSTAMANTE who finished into the empty goal.

With nothing to lose Cirencester continued to press, forcing the home defence into some desperate clearances, and around the 75-minute mark both ‘keepers pulled off excellent saves to maintain the ‘status quo’ and despite plenty of effort Cirencester couldn’t break through the determined home defence.
