The Rovers end The Centurions five match winning run

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

Cirencester Town  0 - 2  Barton Rovers

Following a last gasp win at Aylesbury United on Saturday ‘The Centurions’ were brought down to earth with a bang in this mid-week fixture against bottom side Barton Rovers as the visitors took advantage of a lack-lustre performance to score in each half and take the points on offer.

‘The Centurions’ started brightly enough and were denied with a double goal-line block before the visitors opened the scoring shortly afterwards when KIERAN HAMILTON rose to head a cross from the right inside the near post.

Despite plenty of possession Cirencester couldn’t find a way through the well-organised, determined ‘Rovers’ defence and after the interval the visitors became more confident and when Cirencester pressed they mounted a number of quick counter attacks that required home custodian Alex Harris to be on top form to deny them.

Shortly before the mid-point of the second half KIERAN HAMILTON took full advantage of a defensive error to add a second.

In the closing stages Nick Peare struck the bottom of the left post with a free kick before Cirencester were reduced to nine players following a couple of Red Cards.
