The Centurions score four against The Citizens

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

Welwyn Garden City  0 - 4  Cirencester Town

The Centurions made the long journey to the north of London to face The Citizens of Welwyn Garden City and after a tough battle in difficult playing conditions came away with the three points.

The opening exchanges were short and scrappy as the two sides searched for control but 13 minutes into the game Cirencester were awarded a free kick as they attacked down their left flank and ANDY LEWIS skilfully curled the ball around the wall and inside the far-right post.

The game continued in this frantic end-to-end fashion with both sides mounting attacks that rarely troubled the ‘keepers until shortly before the interval when Cirencester custodian Alex Harris prevented the home side levelling.

Cirencester increased their lead just after the mid-point of the second half when Ellis Dunton delivered the ball to the Penalty Spot where ZAC GUINAN leapt to head inside the right post.

The home side responded but couldn’t find a way through the resolute Cirencester defence and as the game was drawing to a close the visitors added another couple of goals as JOE SHEPHERD and JAY SIMPSON both scored inside the far-right post – the former a header and the latter a shot.
