Cirencester avenge early season defeat
Pitching In Southern League
Division 1 Central
Cirencester Town 2 - 0 Kidlington FC
The Centurions returned to The Corinium Stadium for the second of their Bank Holiday fixtures to face Kidlington FC and scored a goal in each half to avenge their early season defeat in the reverse fixture.
The first half was ‘scrappy’ as both sides tried to gain control but Cirencester managed to open the scoring after 15 minutes when ZAC GUINAN rose to head a free kick into the net from the edge of the 6-yard box.
As the sides battled for control play became very combative resulting in numerous free kicks but generally neither ‘keeper was particularly troubled.
The intensity increased after the interval and within the opening seven minutes both sides had been issued with a Yellow Card but gradually Cirencester began to press more regularly and as the half developed the Kidlington ‘keeper, Joseph Gorman, was called into action several times and his defence made a number of goalmouth blocks.
Cirencester scored the vital second goal late in the second half as Gorman raced from his box in an effort to beat Joe Shepherd to the ball and in the resulting contact the ball ‘squirted’ to JAY SIMPSON who calmly slotted it into the empty net.
