'Added-time' goal secures points for Cirencester

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

Aylesbury United  0 - 1  Cirencester Town

The Centurions made the long journey to Chesham to face The Ducks of Aylesbury United and after a tough battle scored a very late goal to return with the three points.

The match was a very ‘scrappy’ affair as neither side kept the ball for long on a soft, sticky surface, due to the recent heavy rain and frost.

An early chance for the home side was smothered by ‘keeper Alex Harris before Levi Irving’s block of a clearance was narrowly wide of the right post.

Before the interval Zac Guinan was denied by a goal-line block and came close with a couple of other efforts whilst the home side responded with close-range efforts late in the half.

The second half was punctuated with free kicks and Yellow Cards so there was little flow to the game.

Cirencester had the ball in the net but it was disallowed for ‘offside’ and Aylesbury had a Penalty Kick appeal rejected before Jay Simpson fired over the top left corner.

The introduction of Tom McElroy livened proceedings up for the home side as he fired wide of the left post and was denied in a 1v1 with Harris but the result was decided in ‘added-time’ when JAKE LEE reacted quickest to convert a free kick into the ‘mix’ and drive the ball into the net.
