Battling performance from The Centurions secures an away point at Thame
Pitching In Southern League
Division 1 Central
Thame United 1 - 1 Cirencester Town
The Centurions travelled to Thame United with a depleted squad for a mid-week fixture and after conceding an early goal they battled hard and were rewarded when a home defender diverted a cross into his own net shortly before the interval.
The home side opened the scoring after 4 minutes following a corner kick that was cleared to the edge of the box where GREGORY HACKETT was waiting and he struck a firm shot that took a deflection to finish inside the left post.
Despite their makeshift team Cirencester settled quickly to match their opponents and ten minutes from the interval a fine move down their left flank resulted in a cross and firm Levi Irving header that rebounded off the left upright.
A few minutes later Jay Simpson charged down their right flank and delivered a low cross towards the near post where Irving allowed the ball to run and it struck a covering defender to end up in the back of the home net for an OWN GOAL.
The second half was frantic and as Cirencester pressed they nearly succumbed to a counter attack 10 minutes from time but ‘keeper Alex Harris did extremely well to divert a clever chip wide of his goal.
