The Centurions lose by the odd goal in five to The Comrades

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

Berkhamsted FC  3 - 2  Cirencester Town

Once again The Centurions travelled across the country for a mid-week league fixture as they took on BERKHAMSTED FC, and after an exciting tussle that began with a goal apiece within the first four minutes, plus two further goals, honours were even going to the interval, but four minutes into the second period the home side scored what proved to be the deciding goal to take the three points.

Cirencester opened the scoring three minutes into the game when NICK HANCOCK collected a clearance from a Joe Turley corner kick to fire it inside the right post from 20 yards.

The home side responded immediately as ALLE BANGURA made the most of a defensive mix-up to level from close range within a minute of the re-start.

Five minutes later Berkhamsted added a second when JOSH CHAMBERLAIN converted a slick cross.

It had been a frantic start to the match and undeterred Cirencester equalised ten minutes later when LEVI IRVING headed an Aidan Bennett cross into the net at the back post.

More frantic football leading up to the interval and it was still all-square.

As in recent matches Cirencester conceded another early goal after the break as JOSH CHAMBERLAIN completed a near post header from a routine cross four minutes into the second period.

The home side continued to press although Cirencester were not out of it as ten minutes after the mid-point of the second half they thought they had equalised but the ‘goal’ was ruled out for ‘offside’.

Despite this disappointment Cirencester competed until the final whistle but it was not to be and the home side took the points.
