The Red Kites complete 'smash & grab' at The Corinium Stadium
Pitching In Southern League
Division 1 Central
Cirencester Town 1 - 2 Thame United
The first home league match of the season for The Centurions brought THAME UNITED to The Corinium Stadium and after the excessive temperatures of Saturday the conditions were more appropriate for football as the rain had arrived about an hour before kick-off.
Within a few minutes home ‘keeper Alex Harris was tested from 25 yards and the resulting corner kick prompted Cirencester to press their opponents - finally breaking the deadlock after 29 minutes when a corner kick was recycled for Nick Hancock to cross towards the near post where JAKE LEE burst forward to head into the net. 1-0.
Ten minutes later a long clearance from the visitors was chased by Adam Smith to the left corner and as he cut inside he back-heeled the ball into the path of DAVID PEARCE who struck a sublime shot into the top right corner to level. 1-1.
Cirencester continued to press after the interval but a swift counter attack from the visitors, as ADAM SMITH chased a long clearance to their left corner, resulted in the Thame player cutting inside to rifle the ball inside the far-right post. 1-2.
Despite Cirencester increasing the pressure they were unable to convert the numerous balls into the visitor’s box and Thame took the 3 points.
