Cirencester draw opening Central Division fixture
Pitching In Southern League
Division 1 Central
Biggleswade Town 0 - 0 Cirencester Town
The Centurions made the long journey to Bedfordshire to face former Premier Division opponents Biggleswade Town in their opening fixture of the new season in the Central Division.
The match was played in extreme weather conditions, with a temperature of at least 35oC on the pitch, and sensibly there were two ‘Drinks Breaks’ in each half.
Despite the conditions and the score-line the game was not without incident as both sides had shots on goal saved and tested their opponent’s defences with the home side having a more direct approach and Cirencester working their flanks, with Jordan Morris particularly prominent down the left.
Just before the second ‘Drinks Break’ Cirencester did get the ball in the net but it was ruled to be ‘offside’.
When play resumed after the half-time interval Cirencester pressed but were unable to break through a stubborn defence – there were a couple of goalmouth scrambles and efforts tipped over the home cross-bar and in the final minutes a double-block to deny Levi Irving.
