Ben's brace takes him to 100 goals for The Centurions

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

Paulton Rovers  1 - 2  Cirencester Town

Having already secured 3rd place in the Division table The Centurions made the journey to Paulton Rovers for their final league fixture of the season and after another difficult match a Ben Whitehead brace was enough to secure the 3 points.

The match started promisingly enough for The Centurions as they worked their flanks and around the 15-minute mark Ben Whitehead fired over the top left corner of the Rovers.

Play became very scrappy as neither side retained the ball for long but as the half was drawing to a close there was some goalmouth action.

Edward Butcher embarked on a long run to the visitors Penalty area where his progress was halted and both Jake Lee and Whitehead sent efforts over the target before BEN WHITEHEAD scored inside the near right post.

In ‘added-time’ BEN WHITEHEAD did it again as he headed a corner kick inside the same post.

Paulton started the second period quickly as Liban Ibrahim was through on goal but Harris made a fine save to deny him and this was soon followed by several strong runs towards the visitor’s Penalty Area.

Around the hour-mark the home side sent another couple of efforts over the bar and at the mid-point they were rewarded when LEIGHTON THOMAS clipped a cross inside the right post.

Shortly afterwards the Referee rejected Paulton’s claims for a Penalty Kick when Harris dived at the feet of Butcher and the ‘keeper made a couple more saves as Paulton searched for an equaliser.

As the final whistle approached Levi Irving and Aidan Bennett pressed the home defence but without success.
