A goal in each half secures victory for The Centurions

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

Bideford  0 - 2  Cirencester Town

The Centurions made the long journey to Devon to face Bideford AFC in their penultimate away league fixture of the season and scored a goal in each half to return with the three points on offer to keep the pressure on the sides above them as the season draws to an end.

Both sides began brightly enough without testing their opposing ‘keeper and as the half developed it became a little frantic with neither side getting a real grip on the game.

As the interval approached Bideford worked the ball inside from their left flank for Alex Byrne to fire a fierce shot at the target that visiting ‘keeper Alex Harris parried before picking up.

Moments later Shayne Anson broke up another home attack and sent the ball downfield before embarking on an overlapping run that saw the ball returned to him and his cross-cum-shot was met at the far post by LEVI IRVING who stretched to tuck it into the net.

The second period began in the same frantic manner but at the hour-mark Cirencester doubled their tally when Ellis Dunton cleared the ball down the left channel for AIDAN BENNETT to press the last defender and win the ball before striking a superb curling shot into the top right corner.

The home side responded with some good approach play but all they had to show for it was a couple of shots from the busy Charles Hanson and a solid header from Toby Down - all of which cleared the bar.
