The Centurions suffer heaviest defeat of the season in Cup Final

GFA Senior Challenge Cup

Final

Yate Town  5 - 0  Cirencester Town

Cirencester travelled to the GFA Headquarters at Oaklands Park to face YATE TOWN in the final of the Senior Challenge Cup and had three ‘goals’ disallowed and missed a Penalty Kick as their opponents from the Southern League – Premier Division South produced some clinical finishing to score five and deservedly take the honours.

The Centurions began very positively as they took the game to their opponents and had the ball in the back of the net twice, through Josh Parsons and Aidan Bennett, within the first eleven minutes to be denied by an ‘offside’ flag.

Shortly after the mid-point of the half Yate opened the scoring after a period of pressure yielded a free kick and a precise strike from JOE TUMELTY that clipped the inside of the right post on its way into the net.

Yate increased their lead after an exchange of passes released LUKE HOPPER into space and he tucked the ball inside the left post.

Two minutes later another Aidan Bennett ‘goal’ was disallowed for a foul in the approach play.

Within seven minutes of the re-start Yate had hit the woodwork and added two more goals through JOSEPH HALL and RICARDO REES.

With nothing to lose Cirencester pushed forward but conceded another goal as the game entered the final 15 minutes when Ollie Mehew slipped the ball through for JAMES HARDING to complete the task.

Six minutes later Andrew Hannah pushed Jake Mawford’s Penalty Kick wide of his goal and from the resulting corner kick Ellis Dunton’s header was cleared from the goal-line.

Despite playing some neat football until the final whistle Cirencester were unable to get a consolation goal and Yate were deserving winners.
