Cirencester back on track after fine win at Larkhall

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

Larkhall Athletic  0 - 3  Cirencester Town

The Centurions made the comparatively short journey to Bath to face Larkhall Athletic and after a goal-less first half the match came to life in the second after Ben Whitehead opened the scoring and debutant Jake Mawford added two more to secure the 3 points.

In perfect weather conditions the football was disappointing in a dour first half where neither side retained the ball for long with it constantly being launched.

The home side created a good chance after 17 minutes when a strong run down the right flank led to a cross to the back post where Brad Norris’s header was blocked

Around the mid-point of the half Cirencester produced a period of sustained pressure resulting in a free kick and Ben Whitehead shooting wide of the right post.

The visitors started the second half positively and before the hour mark Cirencester custodian Alex Harris punted the ball downfield for BEN WHITEHEAD to collect and evade a couple of challenges before tucking his shot inside the left post.

Shortly after the mid-point of the half the ball was returned to JAKE MAWFORD, following a corner kick, and as he entered the box from the right corner he unleashed a fierce shot inside the near post to score on his debut.

Nine minutes later JAKE MAWFORD scored his second following a ‘step-over’ and left footed shot inside the far-right post to secure the points for Cirencester.
