Another 1-0 defeat on the road for The Centurions

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

AFC Totton  1 - 0  Cirencester Town

The Centurions travelled to Southampton to face 4th placed AFC Totton at The Snows Stadium and after a tough contest returned empty handed as the home side secured the points mid-way through the second period thanks to a converted Penalty Kick.

The visitors started positively and had the first pot at goal when Nick Peare headed over the bar and this continued as they produced some neat approach play but shortly after the mid-point of the half Totton’s Ethan Taylor fired wide of the far-left post and this signalled a response from the home side as Hisham Kasimu had his shot deflected over the bar and Brett Williams headed wide of the left post.

The final action of the half saw Aidan Bennett shoot over the bar from the edge of the home box.

After the interval it was the home side that came out of the blocks quickest as a Taylor shot was punched over his bar by custodian Alex Harris.

Cirencester’s Levi Irving replied sending a low cross through the home box without contact and on the hour Totton had the ball in the net but were denied by an ‘offside’ flag.

Three minutes later Harris pushed another Taylor shot away but at the mid-point of the half a long ball to the edge of the Cirencester box resulted in a Penalty Kick that HISHAM KASIMU blasted inside the right post.

As changes were made to personnel the game became scrappy and as it entered the final ten minutes home ‘keeper Lewis Noice made three saves in quick succession to deny the visitors an equaliser and The Stags were able to complete the task to take the points.
