Stalemate at The Causeway

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

Cinderford Town  0 - 0  Cirencester Town

The second Gloucestershire derby in three days for The Centurions resulted in ‘stalemate’ as The Foresters produced a battling performance to deny their ‘top of the table’ opponents any room.

In an ‘end-to-end’ match that was important to both sides for different reasons there was plenty of commitment and endeavour but little footballing quality due to the pace the game was played at as neither side kept the ball for long with their opponents snapping at their heels.

The home side started positively, particularly down their left flank, and tested the visitors defence who then countered quickly with an early chance falling to Joe Shepherd who drove his shot into the waiting arms of ‘keeper Nicholas Jones.

Cinderford responded and had a couple of shots blocked in quick succession inside the Cirencester box and generally play continued in this ‘end-to-end’ fashion with neither ‘keeper being tested.

As the interval approached Cinderford pressed for Toby Holland to cross from the left flank - but just over the head of an incoming Lewis Bamford.

After the break it was more of the same although Bamford struck the base of the left post with a curling effort from the right channel and Josh Parsons had his close-range shot blocked at the right post.
