Another late goal costs Cirencester points

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

Cirencester Town  1 - 1  Larkhall Athletic

In a fast, entertaining and very competitive league match Larkhall Athletic scored a late equaliser to deny Cirencester the three points that would have taken them to the top of the table.

The game was played at a fast pace and with the defences generally on top it took 11 minutes for the first shot at goal and seven minutes later the same player, Levi Irving, had another effort cleared off the line.

At the mid-point of the half home custodian Alex Harris denied Larkhall’s Brad Norris in a 1v1 after he had been released down the right channel to the penalty area.

Five minutes later Cirencester came close as Joe Turley curled his shot narrowly wide and in the ten minutes leading up to the interval Tommy Anderson nearly converted a low cross for the hosts who then survived a period of Larkhall pressure before the break.

It had been a physical first half, littered with free kicks and corner kicks, but within 2 minutes of the re-start Cirencester’s BEN WHITEHEAD chased a ball to the corner before working his way back to the front edge of the box to shoot into the top left corner.

Almost immediately Larkhall replaced a centre back with a midfielder to press Cirencester and it became more ‘end-to-end’ but there were still few chances.

In the final minutes Cirencester’s Ellis Dunton struck the woodwork and the ball was cleared for Larkhall’s Dan Demkiv to charge to the left by-line and his cross was converted at the back post by JACK PEARSON-BROWN to level the score.
