The Centurions return from Silver Street with the 'spoils'

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

Willand Rovers  0 - 2  Cirencester Town

Cirencester travelled to Devon to face Willand Rovers for the first time at their Silver Street ground and after a hard-fought match on a difficult pitch returned with the three points.

It certainly wasn’t a classic, but more a match of endeavour and commitment, on a soft pitch that made it difficult to stay upright.

The home side adapted to the conditions better than their visitors in the first half with their lively front runners busy and testing the Cirencester defence but five minutes after the interval Cirencester were awarded a Penalty Kick for handball that Captain JAKE LEE smashed into the roof of the net to make the break-through.

As the mid-point of the half approached a home player was awarded his second Yellow Card, followed by the obligatory Red Card, but despite this Willand battled manfully to make it difficult for Cirencester.

A couple of minutes from ‘added-time’ Cirencester added a second goal when LEVI IRVING tucked the ball under the advancing home ‘keeper to increase the margin and seal the game for the visitors.
