Cirencester victory moves them into 4th place in league table

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

Cirencester Town  2 - 0  Cinderford Town

Following their weekend off ‘The Centurions’ returned to action with a league fixture against Gloucestershire rivals Cinderford Town at The Corinium Stadium and scored a goal in each half to secure victory.

Straight from the kick-off the home side looked in positive mood as they attacked their visitors and eight minutes into the match they opened their account when a well flighted free kick from Mike Pook found an unmarked JOSH PARSONS at the far post who headed it inside the right post.

The home side continued to press forward and forced The Foresters to defend for much of the first half but the final ball was not finding its intended target enabling the visitors to mount counter attacks that were soon stifled for the cycle to begin again.

Six minutes into the second half Cirencester doubled their lead when a neat, incisive move down their right flank released JOE SHEPHERD into the visitor’s box and he smashed the ball inside the far-left post.

Despite being two goals down Cinderford defended with determination and mounted more attacks during the second period and home ‘keeper Alex Harris was called into action to block a close-range effort from Jake Jackson as the game was drawing to a close.
