'The Centurions' fight back to win seven goal thriller

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

Cirencester Town  4 - 3  Paulton Rovers

It was a return to Southern League action at The Corinium Stadium as Cirencester entertained an in-form Paulton Rovers side that demonstrated why they have moved up to 8th place in the table by scoring in the first minute through a cross-shot from EDWARD BUTCHER.

The visitors added a second just after the mid-point of the half when LEIGHTON THOMAS received the ball to fire a low shot across the goal and inside the far-right post.

Four minutes later JOSH PARSONS reduced the deficit following a misunderstanding that enabled him to collect the ball inside the visitor’s penalty area and finish into the empty net.

On the stroke of half-time Paulton were awarded a Penalty Kick that LEIGHTON THOMAS duly despatched for his side to regain their two-goal cushion going to the break.

It must have been some kind of ‘pep-talk’ during the interval as within two minutes Cirencester reduced the arrears when Levi Irving’s header struck the right post and JOSH PARSONS bundled it over the line.

As the hour approached Cirencester added two more in the space of two minutes to take the lead as first Ellis Dunton’s header rebounded off the bar for JAKE LEE to complete the task from close range and then LEVI IRVING produced a superb near-post header to take the lead.

After obtaining the lead Cirencester continued to press forward, keeping Paulton on the back foot in the process, to secure the three points.
