The Centurions march on following League Cup victory at Yate

Pitching In League Challenge Cup

Second Round

Yate Town 1 - 2  Cirencester Town

Cirencester made the short trip to face Yate Town for this mid-week League Cup fixture and came away with a narrow 2-1 victory to go through to the next round.

In a competitive ‘end-to-end’ encounter it was The Centurions that opened the scoring mid-way through the first half when BEN WHITEHEAD forced the ball over the line from close range after his initial shot had been parried, collected by an alert Aidan Bennett, and clipped into the mix in the goal-mouth.

The home side replied ten minutes later following a driving run from Max Williams and a low cross from the right flank was collected by OWEN BRAIN who tucked it inside the far-left post.

After the interval it was more of the ‘press and counter’ football but no further goals until, with about ten of the scheduled 90 minutes remaining, Ross Gabriel headed the ball on to release AIDAN BENNETT into the home box where he calmly slipped it under the advancing ‘keeper and inside the right post to regain the lead for Cirencester.

Despite both sides creating chances there were no further goals and Cirencester were through to the next round of the League Cup.
