Late 'Crusaders' strike knocks 'Centurions' out of The Emirates FA Cup

The Emirates FA Cup

Third Qualifying Round

Hungerford Town 3 - 2  Cirencester Town

The Third Qualifying Round of The Emirates FA Cup took Cirencester to National League – South side HUNGERFORD TOWN and after an exciting cup-tie - with 5 goals, a Penalty Kick and a Red Card - it required a late strike to secure victory for the hosts after ‘The Centurions’ had pulled-back a two-goal deficit.

Playing down the slope, but into the continuous rain, Cirencester had the better of the first half but it remained goal-less until 3 minutes after the interval when KEITH EMERSON tucked the ball inside the back post following a corner kick.

Shortly after the mid-point Hungerford doubled their lead when a Cirencester Penalty Kick was saved leading to a swift counter-attack and a goal for RYAN SEAGER as he bundled a low cross over the line.

With nothing to lose Cirencester pressed forward and a corner kick led to an initial save but ELLIS DUNTON was on hand to volley the ball into the net from a few yards to start a recovery that brought an equaliser two minutes later as BEN WHITEHEAD headed home from close range.

With 7 minutes of ‘normal time’ remaining Hungerford were reduced to ten men as the game became tense, prompting another surge from Cirencester, and in ‘added-time’ another counter from Hungerford led to a low cross and smart finish from RYAN SEAGER at the near post to secure victory for The Crusaders.
