The Centurions progress in The Emirates FA Cup with victory over The Hammers

The Emirates FA Cup

Second Qualifying Round

Cirencester Town 3 - 1  Hamworthy United

The Second Qualifying Round of The Emirates FA Cup brought Hamworthy United of the Wessex League - Premier Division to The Corinium Stadium and after a robust start it was the visitors that opened the scoring but within a minute the scores were level again and Cirencester took the lead a few minutes later. A third after the break was enough to put them into the hat for the next round.

It was clear from the off that The Hammers had come to compete and an end-to-end match ensued as ‘keeper Alex Harris was soon tested and Josh Parsons fired wide of the left post in reply.

The visitors opened the scoring when MATTY NEALE bundled a low cross over the line but within a minute Cirencester equalised as JOSH PARSONS darted forward to divert a low cross inside the right post.

A few minutes later Cirencester took the lead as JOE SHEPHERD smashed the ball inside the left post.

The pace continued after the break with goal-mouth blocks and near misses at both ends but midway into the half LEVI IRVING burst into the left channel of the visitor’s box to double Cirencester’s lead.

Hamworthy continued to press forward whenever possible with Jack Lovell drawing another fine save from Harris and whilst Cirencester put them under pressure during the middle part of the half the visitors pressed forward until the very end.
