The Centurions made to battle for a point at Melksham

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

Melksham Town  1 - 1  Cirencester Town

For their second ‘away’ league fixture The Centurions travelled to Melksham Town and after conceding a goal in the first minute and missing a second half penalty kick they fought back to secure a valuable point with a late goal.

Cirencester kicked off but quickly lost the ball and succumbed to a quick counter attack as they paused when the Assistant Referee raised his flag but the Referee allowed play to continue and the home side took full advantage as the ball was crossed from the left corner for JAKE MAWFORD to finish from a couple of yards at the back post.

Encouraged Melksham pushed forward and the Cirencester defence was severely tested before they could mount counter attacks that were not as co-ordinated as in previous games but by the interval they had worked their way into the match.

After the break it was more of the same with no quarter asked or given in a fiercely contested encounter and just after the mid-point Cirencester had a Penalty Kick saved by Matt Hall after a period of intense pressure from the home side.

Five minutes from time Ben Whitehead whipped a cross from the left flank to the far post for JOSH PARSONS to control on his chest before tucking it into the net.

During the final few minutes Cirencester were awarded a number of corner kicks but they couldn’t break the deadlock and it finished all square.
