Goal in 'added-time' secures victory for 'The Centurions'

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

Cirencester Town  1 - 0  Sholing FC

The Centurions were without a game on Saturday but they returned to action, following their ten-day break, with a tough league fixture against current leaders Sholing FC and despite the appalling weather conditions a competitive match ensued with a very late goal deciding the destiny of the points.

The visitors were quickly out of the blocks and they nearly made a perfect start when Jake Cope struck the base of the right post and Dan Mason fired wide of the left post within 5 minutes but The Centurions responded for a Joe Shepherd shot to be diverted into the grateful arms of ‘keeper Ryan Gosney.

Cirencester worked the ball down their flanks for Ben Whitehead to be denied by a point blank save and Josh Parsons a block near the goal-line - whilst Sholing had a more direct approach to test the resolve of the home back line.

Shortly before the interval a Jake Lee header rebounded off the right post but it remained all-square.

After the break both sides pressed but the defences remained firm and as the game entered ‘added-time’ Levi Irving was brought down by Gosney for a Penalty Kick that Parsons drove wide of the left post.

The action wasn’t over however as Cirencester pressed again to the right corner and a throw-in led to the ball reaching ROSS GABRIEL who managed to squeeze it inside the far-left post to claim victory for The Centurions.
