Centurions reach milestones over August Bank Holiday weekend

During the weekend three Centurions reached personal milestones in their Cirencester Town careers and another current Centurion achieved a similar milestone a few games ago.

Two of the Centurions can truthfully be considered to be ‘home grown’ as they first began playing together at Under 6 level for the ‘Junior’ section of the Club and progressed through all the age levels to Under16, the Academy and Development Team to reach the First Team.

The Centurions in question are AIDAN BENNETT and ELLIS DUNTON.

The age group they were in formed the Development Team at Under 17’s and whilst initially they both joined the Cirencester Academy it was Aidan that committed to the Academy and Ellis that dropped out to continue playing with his age group in the newly formed Development Team playing in the Hellenic League – Reserve Division 2.

Once Aidan completed his time in the Academy he too played for the Development Team and became a regular squad member of the First Team.

His versatility and ability with both feet has enabled him to play in a number of positions on either flank – full back, midfield, wing or striker.

His first appearance for the First Team as a substitute was in October 2011 and his full debut was in January 2012.

During the Bank Holiday weekend – against Bideford – Aidan made his 300th start for the First Team (total appearances 370) and marked it by scoring his 68th goal.

He was also awarded Man of the Match by the home supporters present after the game.

Ellis continued to play for the Development Team and in its first season the team unexpectedly won their Division title and were promoted and in their second season they reached the Reserves Challenge Cup Final but lost to Gloucester City.

He made his first appearance for the First Team as a substitute in a County Cup game against Bristol City in January 2009, when he was 15 years old, and his full debut in March 2011.

He too is able to play on either flank - in midfield or across the back line and his aerial ability comes in handy in both boxes.

During the last ten years he has played in Australia for a couple of seasons and also for Fairford Town when work commitments prevented him from attending the training and travel required at Southern League level.

On Bank Holiday Monday - against Evesham United - Ellis made his 250th start for the First Team (total appearances 277) and so far he has scored 28 goals.

The third Centurion to reach a milestone is JOE SHEPHERD who joined the Academy and played for the Development Team during the 2011-12 Season and made his First Team debut in September 2012.

Joe possesses an incredible engine that enables him to work from box-to-box, is tenacious in the tackle and he too has the ability to play in a number of positions.

He moved on at the end of the 2013-14 Season and returned to Cirencester, from Swindon Supermarine, during the 2020-21 Season.

Joe made his 50th start against Evesham United (total appearances 63) and has scored 9 goals so far.

In addition to the above JOSH PARSONS made his 50th start in the first competitive match of the season against Bristol Manor Farm and he has since made a further 4 bringing his current total appearances to 63, scoring 33 goals.

Josh has very quick feet, an awareness of what is around him coupled with a sharp turn that causes defenders all sorts of problems and is a lethal finisher.

These appearances have been accumulated during a couple of spells with the Club.

WELL DONE CENTURIONS

THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS THEY ARE MUCH APPRECIATED.
