Three goal burst secures victory for The Centurions

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

Cirencester Town  3 - 2  Bristol Manor Farm

The opening league fixture of the new season brought The Portwaymen of Bristol Manor Farm to The Corinium Stadium and what an enthralling match it produced as Cirencester pressed for the majority of the first half, conceded an early goal in the second, scored three in the final quarter before a second for the visitors produced a tense finish.

Whilst Cirencester started positively enough it was the visitors that had the first pot at goal when a Michael Bryant effort was pushed around his left post by custodian Alex Harris.

Cirencester responded with a lively Josh Parsons causing some concern to the visitors and as the half progressed it was the home side that pressed regularly whilst The Farm were dangerous on the counter as an Owen Howe ‘lob’ was wide of the right post.

Almost from the re-start Parsons shot wide after a neat ‘back-heel’ from Aidan Bennett had created the opening but it was the visitors that opened the scoring as a lurking OWEN HOWE finished from close range when Harris parried a Bryant shot.

Undeterred Cirencester pressed for an equaliser leading to ROSS GABRIEL having a ‘tap-in’ for his first touch of the ball following a quick, incisive move down the right flank.

The Centurions took the lead when JOSH PARSONS tucked his shot inside the right post and a few minutes later AIDAN BENNETT ‘chipped’ the advancing ‘keeper for a third but The Farm responded to be awarded their second - following some discussion between Referee and his Assistant who had raised his flag indicating ‘offside’ earlier in the move - after a clever ‘back-heel’ from OWEN HOWE sent it into the net.

As the visitors searched for an equaliser Jamie Bird crashed a 25-yard effort against the home bar but Cirencester would not be denied their victory as they defended resolutely.
