The Centurions held to a draw at The Corinium Stadium

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 South

Cirencester Town  1 - 1  Bideford

Match report by Dave Pyzer

Cirencester returned to League action with a home fixture against Bideford and despite dominating possession for long periods of the first half they went to the interval with a slender 1-0 lead and as is often the case the lack of a second goal increased the tension and resulted in an equaliser and then determined defending to secure a point.

Cirencester began strongly to press their visitors for much of the first half with a number of shots either blocked or wide of the target but around the half-hour mark they finally broke the deadlock when a low cross from Tommy Anderson eluded Nick Peare and a defender to reach an unmarked AIDAN BENNETT and he promptly drove it into the back of the net.

During the half The Robins had mounted counter attacks but hadn’t really tested home custodian Alex Harris until on the stroke of half-time a hopeful punt downfield resulted in a Penalty Kick that was saved to maintain the slender lead.

After the break The Centurions ‘huffed and puffed’ but were still unable to find their ‘cutting edge’ whilst The Robins began to look more dangerous on the counter and in the final quarter an interception on half-way enabled them to make ground to the right corner, followed by a cross towards the near post, where LEWIS WILSON produced a deft header to level the score-line.

The home side pressed for a winner but were unable to penetrate The Robins determined defence.
