Late Bennett strike secures victory in final pre-season friendly

Pre-Season Friendly

Cirencester Town  3 - 2  Didcot Town

The final pre-season friendly match brought old rivals Didcot Town of the Southern League Central Division to The Corinium Stadium – a team we have had many a battle with over the years.

Cirencester began very positively with visiting custodian Leigh Bedwell called into early action as he thwarted several promising attacks within the first ten minutes.

The visitors responded with a couple of counter attacks that were dealt with comfortably and shortly after the half hour Cirencester opened their account as AIDAN BENNETT was on hand to head home from close range after a Josh Parsons effort had been parried following a surging run from Jake Lee.

During the interval Cirencester made five substitutions and despite doubling their lead within three minutes when NICK HANCOCK tapped home after another Parsons shot had been parried it was the visitors who took control whilst the home side settled.

As Didcot pressed they opened their account four minutes later following a free kick and a sharp header from JOSH HEDGES at the near post and on the hour they equalised when another free kick led to a series of headers in the home box that resulted in CAM McNEIL heading in from a couple of yards.

As the game entered the final ten minutes Cirencester regained their composure and finished strongly with AIDAN BENNETT producing an acrobatic volley from near the penalty spot to regain the lead and ultimately victory.
