Cirencester score three without reply to go top of the league
Pitching In Southern League
Division 1 South
Cirencester Town 3 - 0 Lymington Town
For the second fixture of the new season Cirencester welcomed newcomers Lymington Town, who were promoted from the Wessex League to the Southern League for the 2021-22 season, to The Corinium Stadium.
The visitors had recorded a 3-1 victory on Saturday at Barnstaple and looked very capable in the opening exchanges with some neat inter-play but gradually Cirencester began to get the upper hand and after a number of narrow misses they finally opened the scoring two minutes before the interval when ELLIS DUNTON rose at the back post to powerfully head a corner kick into the visitor’s net.
Two goals within three minutes before the hour mark took the game beyond Lymington as a clever back-heel from Aidan Bennett created room for NICK PEARE to place his shot into the top left corner and this was soon followed by an interception on half way that allowed Tommy Anderson to release JOSH PARSONS for a 1v1 and after rounding the ‘keeper he tucked the ball into the vacant net.
To their credit Lymington kept on trying and the Cirencester defence was tested right until the end and in the final minute a superb 30-yard strike from Ben Satterley, that looked destined for the top left corner, brought a tremendous finger-tip save from home custodian Alex Harris.
