Centurions made to battle for the 3 points at Frome

Pitching In Southern League 2020/21

Division 1 South

Frome Town  1 – 2  Cirencester Town

The Centurions returned to league action with a trip to Frome and after a hard-fought battle managed to return with the 3 points.

Playing into the wind and rain it was difficult to make progress at times but the visitors struck first when Jordan Morris rode a couple of tackles to release Levi Irving to the left corner where he delivered a pinpoint cross to the edge of the 6-yard box for AIDAN BENNETT to powerfully head into the net.  0-1.

At the mid-point of the half Kane Simpson chased a ball down the left channel to supply ROBERT HOBBS and he drove it into the net from the edge of the box.  1-1.

By now the action was fairly frantic with neither side able to retain the ball for long but as the interval loomed the home side were awarded a Penalty Kick that ‘keeper Alex Harris parried and it remained all square going to the break.

The second half continued in the ‘end-to-end’ fashion but it was Cirencester that made the break-through as Joe Shepherd charged down the left flank before delivering a low cross into the home box that was cleared to a lurking JONNY DENNIS who drove it inside the left post.  1-2.

With nothing to lose the home side increased the pressure with their neat approach play but a stubborn Centurion rear-guard refused to be breached enabling the visitors to return with the spoils.
