Cirencester Town  0 – 0  Highworth Town

The New Year’s Day league fixture brought near neighbours Highworth Town to The Corinium Stadium for the first reverse fixture of the season and after a well contested game honours were even with neither side able to open the scoring.

The visitors came the nearest to scoring when a firm strike from former Centurion Ashley Edenborough crashed against the home bar a couple of minutes from the interval but generally there was a lot of ‘huff & puff’ and approach play to the edge of the penalty area but few clear chances.

The second half was much the same as Cirencester pressed and Highworth countered with the home side being awarded a number of corner kicks that they were unable to take advantage of due to wayward delivery and resolute defending.

A draw was probably a fair reflection of proceedings as neither side could find a ‘cutting edge’.
