Cirencester head to Chippenham for a replay after pulsating FA Cup match ends all square.

The Emirates FA Cup 2019/20

Second Round Qualifying

Cirencester Town  2 – 2  Chippenham Town

After an exciting FA Cup match that contained a stunning 35 yard strike, two goals in two minutes and a scrambled equaliser the teams will face one another again on Tuesday in the replay.

Cirencester were quickly out of the blocks against their National League South opponents striking the woodwork within two minutes as they worked the ball down their flanks from the kick-off but by the mid-point the visitors were beginning to settle.

As the pressure on the home defence increased ‘keeper Lewis Clayton produced a terrific save to deny Karnell Chambers leading to a couple of corner kicks and a goal of stunning quality as CALLUM GUNNER drove the ball into the top left corner from 35 yards.

As the half was drawing to a close Clayton thwarted Chambers again and Tommy Ouldridge headed wide of the right post.

The second half got off to an electrifying start as JOHN DENNIS latched onto a pass inside the penalty area and after his first shot was blocked he tucked in the rebound.

Almost immediately Cirencester scored again when JACK FREEMAN collected a ‘throw-in’ and drove into the Chippenham area before tucking the ball inside the right post.

As Cirencester pressed Chippenham countered and the game became ‘end-to-end’ with both Chris Zebroski and Dennis striking the woodwork but in the final quarter Chippenham began to press more frequently – bringing on two more forwards in search of a goal.

They finally made the breakthrough as Nat Jarvis’s header was pushed onto the post by Clayton and LUKE HOPPER pounced to prod it home from close range.
