Cirencester score five without reply to maintain pressure on 'play-off' rivals.
Evo-Stik Southern League 2018/19
Division 1 South
Cirencester Town 5 – 0 Street F.C.
Cirencester avenged their 2-1 defeat at Street earlier in the season with an impressive 5-0 victory at The Corinium Stadium to maintain the pressure on their ‘play-off’ rivals and in the process scored their 100th league goal for this season.
The hosts pressed from the kick-off but despite plenty of possession it was an under-hit back pass at the mid-point of the half that provided the opportunity for the lively OWEN WINDSOR to pounce, round the advancing ‘keeper, and slot home from a narrow angle.
Cirencester continued to press down their flanks whilst Street relied on counter attacks but there were no further goals going into the interval.
Two minutes after the re-start Cirencester added a second following a flowing move from defence to their opponents penalty area where ALAN GRIFFIN supplied the clinical finish.
ALAN GRIFFIN added another a few minutes later as he collected a headed flick-on and moved right, evading a couple of challenges, to produce an accurate finish inside the bottom left post.
Shortly afterwards Cirencester had a strong penalty appeal rejected when Tommy Anderson was knocked to the ground as he burst forward, but the winger was soon back again as he carried the ball some 50 yards down the centre, riding tackles as he went, before slipping it to OWEN WINDSOR who slotted home.
With nothing to lose the visitors pressed forward after the mid-point of the half and created a number of openings, striking the woodwork and testing ‘keeper Sam Ayres, but Cirencester defended resolutely and scored moments before the final whistle with another sweeping move as Freeman and Griffin exchanged passes inside the Street penalty area before JACK FREEMAN scored the 100th goal of this league campaign.
