The Centurions return from Devon empty handed.

BetVictor Southern League 2019/20

Division 1 South

Bideford  3 – 0  Cirencester Town

The Centurions made the long journey to Devon to face Bideford and after a goal-less first half and a disallowed goal early in the second they lost 3-0.

The visitors started very positively with three early efforts before a couple of Bideford place kicks tested Lewis Clayton.

Cirencester had the ball in the back of the net midway through the half but it was disallowed for an earlier infringement and shortly afterwards Ben Palmer headed against the bar for the hosts.

On the stroke of the interval a sharp turn and shot from Theo Simpson brought a fine reflex save from Clayton.

Five minutes into the second half Will Tunnicliff bundled the ball home after ‘keeper Liam Kingston had parried an effort but with a defender on the line the Assistant Referee raised his flag and the ‘goal’ was disallowed.

On the hour Clayton denied Simpson in a 1v1 and as the game became more even in terms of possession it was the home side that made the breakthrough when a neatly constructed move ended with MAX SMALLCOMBE smashing the ball into the net.

Almost immediately Cirencester had a sharp chance to level when Jay Malshanskyj darted forward to send a rebound over the bar but as they pressed Bideford broke away for SEAN DOWNING to fire inside the right post.

As the game was drawing to a close Cirencester pushed forward to be hit on the counter as Ben Wood carried the ball into the box for a 1v1 that was parried by Clayton for SEAN DOWNING to collect and send into the vacant net.
