Debut hat-trick for Lewis Thompson.

League Challenge Cup 2019/20

Third Round

Redditch United  0 – 4  Cirencester Town

Lewis Thompson had a debut to remember as he scored a second half hat-trick to take his new club into the next round of the League Challenge Cup.

A much changed starting eleven that included three Development Team players took to the pitch with new striker Thompson alongside Lewis Spurrier and after weathering the initial surge from their hosts in the foggy conditions Cirencester soon began to settle and press forward as the two strikers, along with Tommy Anderson and Max Lloyd, threatened the Redditch goal.

By the mid-point it was ‘nip and tuck’ and shortly afterwards a Jaden Owusu-Nepaul cross struck the Cirencester cross-bar but as the interval loomed Lewis Spurrier released TOMMY ANDERSON down the centre and he chipped the advancing ‘keeper from 35 yards.

Five minutes after the break Lewis Spurrier slipped the ball to LEWIS THOMPSON and he drove it inside the bottom left corner.

The two strikers combined again a few minutes later for LEWIS THOMPSON to smash the ball into the top right corner.

Around the hour mark Lewis Clayton tipped a 25 yard effort over his crossbar and as the game progressed Rhys Hilton became the main outlet and threat for Redditch as he made occasional bursts down their left flank but Cirencester always looked dangerous and they were awarded a Penalty Kick in ‘added-time’ that LEWIS THOMPSON drove inside the bottom right post to complete his hat-trick.
