Cirencester return from Slimbridge with 3 points.

BetVictor Southern League 2019/20

Division 1 South

Slimbridge  0 – 3  Cirencester Town

Cirencester returned to League action against near neighbours Slimbridge after a week when they gained a new Manager and lost 3 players in the preceding 48 hours but despite the turmoil they returned with the 3 points following a determined performance.

The visitors made an early breakthrough to settle any nerves when TOUMANI SIDIBE managed to reach a through-ball into the home box to poke it past the advancing ‘keeper.

During the next 15 minutes both sides had a shot at goal saved but generally the action took place between the penalty areas with Cirencester showing they were unwilling to give-up their advantage whilst their young forward line threatened at every opportunity but were also unable to add to their early goal.

After the interval Cirencester started positively and again were rewarded when LEVI IRVING was released down the centre for a 1v1 with ‘keeper Lewis Adams and the Academy youngster showed great composure as he calmly tucked the ball past the advancing ‘keeper.

The home side began to press more frequently with Danny King often involved but the Cirencester defence stood firm.

Just after the mid-point TOMMY ANDERSON collected the ball to charge down the centre towards Adams who managed to divert his first effort from the edge of the box but Anderson chased after it to finish from near the left by-line.

With nothing to lose Slimbridge pressed forward and although they had plenty of possession they were unable to break through the stubborn visitors rear-guard whilst Cirencester kept the home defence busy with swift counter attacks.
