Cirencester return from Evesham with a point.

BetVictor Southern League 2019/20

Division 1 South

Evesham United  0 – 0  Cirencester Town

The Boxing Day fixture list took Cirencester to Worcestershire to meet fourth placed Evesham United and following a determined performance they returned with a point.

Both sides started positively enough but they were finding it difficult to maintain their footing on a very soft pitch following the recent rain and as a result there were only glimpses of the quality that might have been on offer on another day as generally neither side kept the ball for long.

Cirencester probably shaded the first half in terms of forward moving possession and clearer chances created, as Levi Irving and Jack Twyman had close range headers that failed to test the home ‘keeper or find the back of the net, whilst Evesham’s Paul Sullivan rattled the visitors crossbar.

After the break the game was more even with both sides pressing to the edge of their opponent’s box but unable to penetrate, although Evesham’s Brian Smikle came close at the mid-point, and as the game drew to a close the home side probed more regularly but on the day a draw was probably the right result.
