10-man Cirencester lose 7-goal thriller in extra time.

BetVictor Southern League 2019/20

Division 1 South

Cirencester Town  3 – 4  Winchester City

Fifth placed Winchester City were the latest visitors to The Corinium Stadium for a league match that produced a 7-goal thriller - a two-goal lead for the visitors, a Red Card for the home side, two goals in added-time and a home hat-trick.

Following the departure of Manager Charlie Griffin in mid-week the long serving James Mortimer-Jones took the reins as Caretaker Manager for this game and he saw his side give a spirited performance in an action-packed game as Cirencester struck a post before JOE HAYWARD opened the scoring for the visitors from a corner kick.

Winchester doubled their lead 11 minutes into the second half when Cirencester struggled to clear the ball and ROBERT CARR managed to tuck it inside the right post.

Two minutes later TOUMANI SIDIBE reduced the arrears when he headed a Jonny Dennis cross into the top corner.

Approaching the mid-point of the half the same combination added a second as TOUMANI SIDIBE converted from close range.

Within minutes Cirencester had a strong appeal for a penalty kick rejected and shortly afterwards were reduced to ten men when Mike Pook was shown a Red Card.

As the game was drawing to a close OLIVER GRIGGS fired into the top right corner to regain the lead for Winchester but Cirencester were not done yet as TOUMANI SIDIBE scored his third in ‘added-time’ to level again.

A couple of minutes later Winchester were awarded a free kick and OLIVER BALMER placed the kick into the top right corner – securing victory for his side.
