'The Centurions' defeated by 'The Boatmen'.

BETVICTOR Southern League 2019/20

Division 1 South

Sholing  3 – 1  Cirencester Town

‘The Centurions’ travelled to the south coast to face Sholing for the first time since the 2012-13 season and after a match that lacked any real quality they returned home empty handed.

Despite a positive start Cirencester were a goal down after 6 minutes when DANIEL MASON struck from the edge of the box after some harassing from Marlon Mason created the opportunity.  1-0.

The game became scrappy with neither side able to retain the ball for long and as the interval loomed Cirencester worked the ball down their left flank resulting in a corner kick that reached JOHN DENNIS who took a touch before curling his right footed shot inside the far right post.  1-1.

After the break Cirencester pressed again but the home side countered as ALEX SAWYER collected a long ball to the edge of the Cirencester box and under pressure reached the right front corner of the 6 yard box where he managed to slip the ball past both his marker and the closing ‘keeper - eventually nestling inside the far left post.  2-1.

Shortly before the mid-point of the half Sholing were reduced to ten men so they re-grouped and withstood the crosses from the Cirencester flanks to launch balls downfield, chase and press, and such was their effort it was difficult see they were a man down.

With full time rapidly approaching Daniel Mason battled for the ball to reach the right by-line where he slipped it inside for BRADLEY TARGETT to collect, dummy to shoot, then drag the ball back to create space to finish with his left foot inside the far left post.  3-1
